Your expenses
The expenses step asks what you spend each year. Here's what to include, what to leave out and how YNAB fits in.
What you spend
Enter what you spend each month in each category, at today’s prices. LongSpan turns it into a yearly figure and raises it each year with inflation.
Rough figures are fine to start with. You can change any of them later, and your forecast updates as you do.
What to leave out
Income tax. LongSpan works out your income tax each year from that year’s income and withdrawals, and charges it for you.
A home you own. Add its mortgage, property tax, insurance and upkeep on the Property & business step instead. That way they stop if you sell. Rent you pay goes here, under housing.
Bringing in spending from YNAB
If you budget in YNAB, connect it with a personal access token and pick a budget. LongSpan reads a 12-month average for each category. It never reads your transactions and never changes anything in YNAB.
Spending refreshes once a day. If you type over a figure, later syncs leave it as you set it. Disconnecting keeps every figure in your plan, for you to keep current yourself.
