Settings

Settings holds your account: planning together with your partner, who has used your plan, your password, billing and deleting the account. Here’s how each one works.

Plan together with your partner

Invite your partner from Settings, and you both work on the same plan. They sign in with their own email address, and the plan has room for one partner. For now, each person can be in only one plan.

LongSpan makes an invite link for the email address you enter, and you send it to your partner yourself: LongSpan doesn’t email it. The link shows only once, when it’s made. If you need it again, get a new link, and the old one stops working. Only that address can use it, once, within 7 days.

You both see the whole plan. Access sets what your partner can change:

  • View only: sees the whole plan, and changes nothing.
  • View and try life scenarios: adds life events and tries them out in scenarios, but doesn’t change the plan itself.
  • Full access: changes the whole plan, but doesn’t change access or delete the account.

You can change access at any time, and the change takes effect within five minutes. Removing your partner from the plan disconnects any assistants they connected, and everything in the plan stays.

Who used your plan

Settings lists everything besides you and your partner that used your plan in the last 30 days, and nobody at LongSpan opens it. Each assistant shows how many requests it made and when it last did, and opens on the Assistants page with what it read and changed. Your partner’s assistants may show together, as one count.

LongSpan’s own jobs show how many times they ran:

  • Balance refresh brings your linked accounts’ balances in through Plaid.
  • YNAB sync brings your spending in from YNAB.
  • Assistant email counts what your assistants changed, for your daily email.

Your password

Your password is kept by LongSpan’s sign-in service, so Settings doesn’t ask for the old one. Send yourself a reset link, and set a new password on the page it opens. The link goes to the email address on your account.

Billing

One subscription covers you and your partner, and either of you can pay for it. A new plan starts with a 14-day free trial, which becomes paid when it ends unless you cancel before then.

Subscribe monthly or yearly. On the web you pay through Stripe, and the household’s owner cancels under Settings, Billing; in the LongSpan app on your iPhone or Android phone, you pay through its store, and you manage that subscription there.

If your subscription ends, or Google Play pauses it, your plan is read only: you can see everything in it, but you can’t change anything, nothing syncs and assistants can’t reach it. Everything you entered stays, and subscribing again picks up where you left off.

A paused subscription resumes on its own and keeps your linked banks. When a subscription you paid for ends, your linked banks stay linked for 7 days, so you can renew without linking them again. When a free trial ends without a subscription, they’re disconnected, and you link them again once you subscribe.

Deleting your account

Deleting your account deletes your plan and everything in it: everyone in it, every account, balance, property and scenario, and the sign-in of everyone who uses it. Your linked banks are disconnected too.

You can’t undo it, and LongSpan keeps no copy to restore it from, so Settings asks you to type DELETE to confirm.
